Howard Herr is a former top ranked junior tennis player from Durban, South Africa.
In his early days he played as No. 1 for Auburn University in the USA leading the team to its first ever Southeastern Conference (SEC) Championship in 1983. He won 3 individual SEC titles beating Paul Annacone, the top ranked college player in the nation, in the Conference Championship.

After graduating with a degree in Accounting, he competed as a professional player on the ATP Tour and was ranked amongst the top 200 players in the world, with career wins over former world top 20 players Andre Agassi, Andrés Gómez, Karel Novacek, Amos Mansdorf and David Wheaton. In the early 1990s he played team tennis for German Bundesliga power house Kurhaus Aachen.

During his ATP Tour career he also successfully completed the ATP Tour Professional Course at Ponte Vedra, Florida, USA. This is an elite professional coaching course for past ATP Tour players.

In retirement Herr won the US National Clay Court 30’s Championship twice. Won the Atlanta Senior Invitational Championships a record 6 straight times. Was selected to represent the United States 35+ team in international competition where has was undefeated. He also represented Georgia, USA against the Panama Davis Cup team where he was undefeated and he was selected as Georgia Player of the Year 5 times (twice by the Georgia Tennis Association and 3 times by the Georgia Professional Tennis Association).

He was Director of Tennis for 12 years at The Falls of Autry Mill in Alpharetta, GA which was voted the best tennis club in Atlanta by the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

For 20+ years he has taught players from as young as 5 years through to attainment of US Tennis Scholarships and through to professionals playing on the courts of Wimbledon. His expertise ranges from beginner, intermediate and advanced adults. He currently teaches at Bergvliet Sports Club with fellow professional Greg Osborne.
